An Amazing Experience

The most wonderful and meaningful experience I have never had when doing a course’s project. At the beginning of the course, I did not know that this experience was going to teach and help me to become a better person, the one who cares more about people issues and social problems. In our case, Francisco, Keneth and I, decided to help nine beautiful little girls who live in an orphanage which is located in San Lorenzo de Flores – Heredia. Sharing with them has been wonderful I could learn from their innocence, enthusiasm and way of seeing life in spite of the fact that they have suffered a lot. We shared with them beautiful moments like teaching them a recycling class, providing them didactic materials, and the most special for me was making them a party. The party’s experience was great. I will never forget it because it was amazing to see the girl’s happiness when they were eating the exquisite rice Francisco’s mom made and also when eating the sweet delicious cake, but the funniest and greatest part was when they struck the piñata and when we gave then a device to do bubbles because their face was showing a huge smile when they were picking up all the candies and blowing bubbles anywhere. All these little but sweet moments and details made me feel very happy because I was doing something to make them feel loved by someone and also to make them forget for a while all their problems and sufferings.

Modern Scientific Advances

Our world has become more advanced and technological, thus scientist and inventors have been creating easy and useful products that help us to improve our way of living. However, it is very important that when we (citizens) are going to buy new inventions, reflect if this product is going to have more advantages or disadvantages. For example, we must think if the product is going to damage the environment or if we really need to buy it. If we citizens of the world do this every time we are going to buy something we will have a better and less polluted world.

Nuclear Power Problems

Nowadays, nuclear power could be the cause of violence around the world. What I make reference to is that the fact to poses nuclear sources makes a country to feel control over the other countries. Thus, the countries that have more power could try to take advantage from the ones that do not have too much power. It means to take all the benefits that a poor country can give to them within natural sources without giving them the money poor people ask for the source they took. That’s why having nuclear power is usually the cause of war in many countries specially the ones who have more power.

Oil Exploitation a Big Problem

Oil exploitation has been a terrible problem that has produced a lot of money for ones, but too much pain for thousands. This phrase could be applied in countries like Iraq where people are suffering, starving, and dying because of black gold extraction. This social injustice happens because while the super power country is taking advantage of Iraq, it just probably cares about getting more and more money. For this reason, oil exploitation has become a big problem that not just affect Iraq but other countries with oil source.

Damage to the Environment

Since I received the first lesson in the course Oral Communication III, with Professor Olga Chaves, I noticed this course was going to be different and very useful not just for improving my English level but also to make a difference within environmental and social issues. When Ms Chaves gave us the course program, she explained that through the course we had to make a project where we would help someone to have a better life quality or a way of going green. Thus, putting it into practice has made me reflect about the importance of changing our minds and to start caring about social issues. Also, it has been a way of not being selfish, sharing with others, and realizing about the huge damage we, human beings, are causing to the planet. For these facts, I feel really happy about it because at least we students from Universidad Nacional are making a little difference among helping people and environment around us. Even though we haven`t finished our project yet, I think it is going to be a great experience and learning that made me change my way of thinking about people and environment to the rest of my life.

Globalization’s Effects

Globalization could bring us advances and new technologies, but it also could badly change the way we live. Globalization has given us some solutions to our problems, like the cure for some diseases and new facilities to improve the way we work. However, these advantages have also made that society does not care about important social issues like helping people who do not have a good quality of life. I say this because going back to the pass, we could notice that even though people did not have the technology and facilities we have now, they lived in harmony, they cared about the ones who did not have anything to eat or wear, they showed love within each others, but nowadays it is remarkable that some people do not care about others’ problems but just about themselves and their own benefit. Because of these facts, it is seen that globalization has advantages but also disadvantages that could interfere with the way we interact with others.

Space Journeys and Other Planets

Nowadays our society has been planning new ways of discovering methodologies and solutions to carry out the diseases and economic problems it has had. Thus, scientist have been planning space journeys and exploring other planets to accomplish that mission. Studying other planets has helped them to find some life`s evidence. This has been useful because this discovery can answer some unknown statements. As an example, scientists recently discovered that some diseases and environmental issues were produced by microorganisms found over the earth surface. According to the other source scientists are starting to use to get some sponsorship is to offer space journeys to the public, so they are making a list where people can write their names and pay a very expensive ticket to have the amazing experience of visiting the space. To sum up, it is necessary that scientist keep making space journeys and exploring planets to find and solve the unknown issues that could affect our society.

Already there is not Social Justice

Social justice is a phrase many citizens could use, but few could put it into practice. Nowadays, this issue is not being respected by the society because it is being influenced by selfishness, poverty, and corruption. Some people just think about their own benefits, it means that they usually look for their needs without thinking in someone else’s. They do not care about citizens that get hurt or affected while they are having more and more benefits. When some citizens get what they want, some others are fighting for what they need to survive. Second, the increase of poverty is also a problem that affects the social justice. Poverty is a 90% the cause why citizens steal or murder. The lack of money could provoke people behave in a violent way due to they do not have anything to eat or wear. Thus, they are forced to find a way of getting what they need to survive, even if it implies not to respect the justice, maybe they do it because they do not have other option. The last fact that can affect social justice is the corruption that society involves. Some governments use their strategies to get votes or any political benefit, so they involve citizens (especially poor people) to help them with their political campaign. However, when politicians are starting their campaign they show citizens the benefits government will give them if they are elected, but once they are elected, government forgets citizen’s needs and just think about becoming richer, without caring if citizens are starving or without clothing. To sum up and following society’s behavior, it is clear that selfishness, poverty, and corruption are three important aspects why social justice is drastically disappearing.
